Steveston 284 Seniors’ Housing Society

What was old will be new again.

No doubt as you have been cruising around Steveston over the past few months you have noticed that a Steveston landmark has disappeared. The Steveston Army, Navy & Airforce Unit 284 officially closed its doors on November 15th, 2009 and on December 10, 2009 demolition of the building began and the walls came tumbling down.

Over the next 18 months, rising out of the rubble will be a new Army, Navy and Airforce clubhouse together with a 144 unit Seniors’ Independent Living complex. Both of these projects will be finished construction in the fall of 2011. To help keep the community informed as we move forward in our development the Steveston 284 Seniors’ Housing Society has developed a web site that is updated regularly. Ballet and Creative Movement Classes for 2 ½ to 9 years old

Some of the aims in Creative Movement program are:

To discover the joy of moving to the music.
To develop an appreciation of a variety of music.
To develop and improve listening skills.
To improve physical coordination.
To improve motor skills.

I use percussion instruments, scarves, streamers, hoola hoops, balls, books and a variety of music (from children’s to folk and classical music), to encourage the learning of the different dance and music elements such as speed (slow/fast) pitch and levels (high/low), etc
The classes are presented in a fun way, resulting in an energetic class sure to please the young student. Skills become more challenging throughout the year and progress according to their age. Shy students are encouraged but never forced to participate.

Classical ballet is the key witch opens the door to all other dance forms. Through the study of ballet, the student develops poise, balance, grace, strong muscles and coordination. Ballet enriches children with a sense of classes are specifically designed for the child’s age.

In June & July 2010, soccer fans from around the globe will gather in South Africa for the main event in the soccer world, the FIFA World Cup™. A regular MRI would be too confining for the 6’3” 320 pound former Super Bowl and Grey Cup champion. Singh said this MRI was very comfortable. January 21, 2009.
